Second SSTL route opens between Xiamen and Cape Town

A shipment of inflatable swimming pools, inflatable beds, and other outdoor products, valued at 200,000 yuan ($29,400) and labeled with "Secure and Smart Trade Line (SSTL)", completed customs clearance at Dongdu Customs, a subsidiary of Xiamen Customs, on June 18th. The shipment was then loaded onto the cargo vessel AN YANG 118 bound for the Port of Cape Town, South Africa.

This marked the official launch of a new SSTL pilot route between China and South Africa — the second such route following the Xiamen-Durban Link.

Under this mechanism, goods from enterprises participating in the pilot program, once inspected in the exporting country, are in principle exempt from repeated inspections in the importing country. Additionally, they enjoy mutual prioritized document review and expedited release, significantly reducing customs clearance costs for businesses.

Since the first SSTL route connecting Xiamen and Durban was launched in August 2025, this model has injected strong momentum into bilateral trade. As of June 15 this year, the Xiamen-Durban route, operational for less than a year, has recorded a cumulative export value of 85.036 million yuan.

The choice of Cape Town as the destination port for the second route is based on the strong trade foundation between Xiamen and South Africa. Statistics show that from January to May this year, the total import and export volume between Xiamen and South Africa reached 5.9 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 47.2 percent, with a surge in exports of agricultural machinery and other products.
